North Glenmore & Weaselhead Flats

Along the north and west sides of the Glenmore Reservoir, find these two parks for a diverse fall walking experience. There are numerous trails taking you through forested areas, near wetlands and along shorelines. The fall colours here are particularly striking, especially when you catch their reflection in the calm nearby waters.

Alex’s Tip: Stop in at the various lookout points for panoramic views of the natural fall landscape surrounding the Reservoir.

Confederation Park

Known for its stunning fall foliage, Confederation is a sprawling urban park in Calgary’s northwest. The pathways are lined with mature trees that create a canopy of color during the autumn months. Here you’ll find gentle slopes and a meandering creek make this a peaceful spot for a leisurely fall walk.

Kelsey’s Tip: Bring a blanket and get in one last picnic under the trees before the snow hits!

Strathcona Ravine

Strathcona Ravine is one of Calgary’s lesser-known parks, making it a perfect spot for a quiet fall walk. You’ll even find a hidden wooden boardwalk here, leading you through a forested ravine surrounded by multi-coloured leaves and grasses. It’s a short but sweet walk that feels miles away from city life. Keep your eyes peeled, because this park is a hot spot for wildlife, like birds, coyotes and moose! 

Alex’s Tip: Early mornings or late evenings are the best time to visit, as low sunlight filters through the trees.

Paskapoo Slopes

This greenspace offers a more rugged fall experience, with its network of trails winding through aspen groves and open meadows. The slopes provide a higher vantage point, offering panoramic views of the city and rolling hills dotted with autumn colors. It can be a bit of a workout with the elevation changes, but the views are absolutely worth it!

Edworthy Park & Douglas Fir Trail

Note: As of August 2024, a portion of the Douglas Fir Trail is closed until further notice. You can still access both ends of the trail.

Edworthy Park is a local favorite year-round, and the nearby connecting Douglas Fir Trail is a must-visit during fall. The trail winds along a hillside, offering elevated views of the Bow River and the city skyline, all framed with the brilliant fall colors. Depending on how far you go, it’s a moderate hike with some steeper sections, but the reward? A front-row seat overlooking fall in full force here in Calgary.

Kelsey’s Tip: Take your time to explore the side trails, because you can find staircases, viewpoints and hidden gems throughout.

Bowmont Park & Dale Hodges Park

Nestled above the banks of the Bow River, you’ll find Bowmont Park overlooking Dale Hodges Park below, offering a unique escape from the city’s hustle and bustle without ever leaving. The pathways here meander through grassy fields, wetlands and forested areas, offering a mix of stunning views and secluded spots. BONUS Attraction: Silver Springs Boardwalk

Don’t miss the Silver Springs Boardwalk, a hidden gem in the heart of Bowmont Park. Walk along this wooden boardwalk winding through tall trees that transform into a brilliant mix of gold and orange each fall. It’s an easy stroll, perfect for couples, friends, families and anyone looking for a peaceful escape.

Bowness Park

Bowness Park is a classic Calgary destination year-round, and it only gets better in the fall. This park’s expansive greenspaces transform into stunning shades of yellow, orange and red, with a Bow River backdrop. Take a stroll along the riverside paths, dip into the trees for a secluded walk, or rent a paddleboat (check their operating days here) to take in fall colors from the water.

Alex’s Tip: After your walk, grab a warm drinks from the park’s café and warm up by the fire pits (if they’re lit). Or pop over to Baker Park and enjoy Bowness’s colours from across the river.

Fish Creek Provincial Park

This is one of the largest urban parks in Canada, and its extensive trail network means it’s a prime spot for fall walks. The park’s varied landscapes, from forests and meadows to creeks and ponds, showcase the full spectrum of fall colors. Whether you’re looking for a short stroll, a longer hike, paved trails or rugged paths, Fish Creek has something for everyone.

Beaverdam Flats

This peaceful riverside park offers a mix of forested trails and open grasslands as you meander through nature.
